Cultural Competency
At Magellan of Arizona we believe that all behavioral health care recipients must receive effective treatment in a manner that is respectful of individual preferences, needs and values.
Our Cultural Competency Program
- Is sensitive to differences in acceptable behaviors, beliefs and values in determining an individual's mental health and incorporates such distinctions into treatment.
- Recognizes that recipients and families are the most important participants in the treatment process.
- Incorporates supports such as family involvement and traditional healing practices when appropriate.
- Encourages recipients and families to manage their own health.
- Offers opportunities for feedback regarding policies and procedures.
- Strives to make sure that providers and services are geographically, psychologically and culturally accessible.
- Establishes clear policies, operational plans, and management accountability to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
- Sets the standard for high-quality, culturally competent service for all consumers.
Delivering Culturally Competent Care
Our goal is to support our staff and network providers in delivering culturally competent care in an effective, understandable and respectful manner, compatible with service recipients’ preferred language and cultural beliefs. To achieve this goal we:
- Actively recruit diverse staff members, leadership and network providers.
- Provide bilingual staff and interpreter services at no cost to any service recipient, during all hours of operation.
- Make service-related materials available in the languages most commonly spoken in the community.
Being culturally competent is important to Magellan of Arizona. By delivering culturally competent care, we are building stronger relationships with the people and the community we serve and, ultimately, providing better care.
