Advisory Committees & Volunteer Activities
Magellan is committed to building a community-driven model of behavioral health care in Maricopa County - a model focused on recovery and resiliency as well as accountability for superior program outcomes. To deliver this promise, we established the following community advisory committees, which meet regularly to help guide our network of care. Participants, family members and advocates are encouraged to participate.

Adults with General Mental Health/Substance Abuse (GMHSA) Advisory Committee
The Adults with General Mental Health/Substance Abuse Advisory Committee is responsible for evaluating quality improvement issues and system standards of care for those receiving general mental health and substance abuse services. This committee gives advice to the Quality Improvement Committee, making sure new ways to improve GMH/SA services are used, and helping with community education.
The Adults with GMHSA advisory committee meeting schedule still to be determined. Please check back soon for the 2010 meeting schedule. The committee plans to meet on quarterly basis.

The Adults with SMI Advisory Committee is responsible for evaluating quality improvement issues and system standards of care for those receiving serious mental illness services. This committee gives advice to the Quality Improvement Committee, making sure new ways to improve services for adults with serious mental illnesses are used, and helping with community education.

Child/Adolescent Advisory (CAA) Committee
The Child/Adolescent Advisory Committee is responsible for evaluating quality improvement issues and system standards of care for children and adolescents. This committee gives advice to the Quality Improvement Committee, making sure new ways to improve services for children and adolescents are used, and helping with community education.

Community Training Committee (CTC)
The Community Training Committee is responsible for making decisions regarding new training programs for the RBHA and helping Magellan improve the training that it provides to staff and the community.

Cultural Competency Committee (CCC)
The Cultural Competency Committee is responsible for making sure that all Magellan services and programs deliver high quality care respecting the race, ethnicity, culture, and language preference of every person receiving services. Customer Service Committee (CSC)
The Customer Service Committee is responsible for improving customer service throughout Magellan, including provider network organizations (PNOs) and providers. Customer service includes how Magellan handles telephone calls, people being able to access services, compliments and complaints, appeals, confidentiality issues, and customer satisfaction surveys. This committee works closely with all other committees to resolve customer service issues.

Evidence-Based Best Practices (EBBP) Committee
The Evidence-Based Best Practices Committee is responsible for identifying ways to provide proven services and ensuring these services are accurately executed and can be reviewed. Once a year, this committee will pick at least one "best practice" to start using in each part of the system; such as serious mental illnesses, child and adolescence, or general mental health/substance abuse; and will implement it across the entire system.

Inter-agency Committee (IAC)
The Inter-Agency is responsible for coordinating communication and activities between the Magellan Service Center and the community-based social service agencies. This committee also acts as a connection between the Quality Improvement Committee and these agencies to ensure that information and ideas are shared and used during the quality improvement process.

Network Strategy Committee (NSC)
The Network Strategy Committee reviews and approves network development and network expansion functions, responds to provider terminations and availability and accessibility issues, and plans for short and long-term needs from the larger provider community and within the provider network organizations and Crisis Response Network.

Prevention Advisory Committee (PAC)
This committee is responsible for evaluating Quality Improvement issues and the way the system is working to meet the needs of people receiving prevention services, giving advice to the Quality Improvement Committee on ways to improve services, making sure new ways to improve prevention services are used, and helping with community education.

Quality Improvement Committee (QIC)
The Quality Improvement Committee is responsible for monitoring and helping with quality improvement in the service delivery system. This committee also evaluates Magellan's performance and improvement in order to give advice to make positive changes. This committee reports to the Governance Board and the Magellan National Quality Committee (NQC).

Quality of Care Committee (QCC)
The Quality of Care Committee is responsible for addressing quality of care concerns brought forth by the chief medical officer. The committee reports its findings to the Professional Provider Review Committee and makes recommendations on ways to improve clinical performance to the Quality Improvement Committee.

Utilization Management Committee (UMC)
The Utilization Management committee is responsible for evaluating clinical programs and reviewing the resources available through Magellan, the provider network organizations and the providers to ensure that resources are used appropriately in order for people to receive quality services. The committee also creates rules and procedures to improve the use of services.

Human Rights Committees
Human Rights Committees are made up of people who understand the needs of those with mental illness. Committee members are dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of individuals who receive publicly funded behavioral health services.
