- Hayley Winterberg, MY LIFE chair person (2010), was recently selected as the recipient of Mental Health America's 2010 Mpower Award. Hayley traveled to Washington, D.C. to the Mental Health America Conference in June to receive their national award, Mpower, which celebrates the life and work of a teen or young adult who has spoken out about mental health issues to educate his or her peers and fight stigma. - Podcast highlights programs and services that are helping transition-age youth: During National Drug and Alcohol Recovery (September 2010) Magellan of Arizona produced a podcast that focused on programs and services that are helping transition-age youth (youth between the ages 13 to 24 who are struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse issues). The podcast, "Assisting Transition-Age Youth in Maricopa County," was broadcast on Sept. 22 and featured Magellan's Chief of Child and Youth Services Shawn Thiele, mental health advocate and transition-age youth Haley Winterberg, and Greg Dicharry, youth empowerment director and MY LIFE coordinator for Magellan of Arizona. Magellan is working to help these youth overcome obstacles in their lives and transition into successful, productive adults. Research has shown that "transition-age youth" are more susceptible to school dropout, incarceration, homelessness, placement within the foster care system, and drug or alcohol addiction.
